Grade 4-6–Barry wakes up one morning and finds that he is turning into a dog. Well, not quite. He's a boyhound, human on the outside, but definitely canine within. He thinks the change is rather cool. Dogs don't have to wear clothes, they can eat practically anything, and they don't have much in the way of responsibility. Of course, since he doesn't actually look like a dog, his family and friends have no idea that Barry has undergone this transformation. So, when he chases the cat, sniffs a strange woman's rear end, and bites his best friend, they figure that he has simply gone crazy. The wild action is funny, but the rambling narrative is somewhat difficult to follow. The author often interrupts the story to speak directly to readers, and there are many side comments, non sequiturs, and tangential footnotes. The inset photos, drawings, and diagrams often depict these peripheral points. There is considerable bodily function and gross-out humor as well. Adults may find all this rather distasteful, but middle grade readers–especially boys–with a penchant for off-the-wall humor, may enjoy Barry's misadventures.–Elaine E. In a twist on the familiar kid-dog switcheroo, Barry remains a boy on the outside, but his mind has gone completely canine. This means that in the course of Barry's dog day, he is splattered with the fragrant essence of dead raccoon, chases the family cat, is attacked by squirrels, and pees indiscriminately. The amusing, farcical plot is filled with frequent asides by the author, as well as goofy "factual" footnotes, sidebars, and illustrations. A couple of fleas in Barry's scalp are occasionally visited for their dialogue or Harold Pinter-esque silences. Spearman exploits all the gimmicks of the book trade, including an index (that works), a time line, and a collection of appendixes. Pure silliness, cleverly and exuberantly rendered. Todd Morning

Barry, Boyhound was a very interesting and funny book to read. It is one of those stories where you would hate to be in that situation, which makes everyone enjoy reading it. For some reason people enjoy reading about things that other people do that they would hate to happen to them, so this book would be very popular. It is very funny and I had a laugh while reading it. The little parts with the fleas are very cute! It is a perfect gift for kids.

Middle readers will love it

I work at an independent children's bookstore and read book after book looking for great ones to recommend to our customers. I found this book to be hilarious, uniquely written with comical asides and story related facts, and I'm quite positive 3rd to 5th graders (boys especially) will love this. The voices of the two fleas residing on Barry's head during the course of his "canine problem" added a fun element to the story also. I definitely recommend it.

My 9 year old, Luke is an avid Non-Fiction reader.I,on the other hand,am a fic type girl. You mix the two perfectly and hilariously and with the exact perfect spot on amount of gross and action. Fr both Serious Students or Those Seeking an Introduction to Classical Guitar

I recommend this Kindle Book for anyone who wants to either understand the Classical Guitar or those who want to play the instrument using this well presented step-by-step guide. Kindle Books have the advantage of incorporating Music and Video, so being able to both see and hear what the music or technique is met to achieve makes this publication a wonderful reference, whether for the student or those musically interested.

Dr. Carlos Castillo ably demonstrates a mastery of the Classical Guitar, but more importantly he has demonstrated in this book that he understands the Student, and presents this book in fashion that anticipates the pitfalls a student will have. There are but a few people who can actually convey their knowledge of playing to the Student... this book can help a student understand and replicate techniques, and begin to read the music.

Dr. Castilla has written a Kindle Book that is designed to both show with direction, and video, the world of Classical Guitar in a concise electronic format. I love this book and use it for two different approachs to learning Guitar; the first as an introduction to musical notation for Classical Guitar, and the second application is to see through Video the techniques associated with the Classical playing of Guitar (as opposed to the modern and popular music played today by bands). The written book itself serves my purpose well with guidance and techniques. I was happy to find a book in Kindle format that allowed me to sit at home and "feel like the instructor" was present.

This author has put together a book that could be used for College Music Majors as an introduction for the student to both the Guitars music notation and the Guitar in the Classical traditions; it can be read quickly yet contains a wealth of information for those more seriously inclined. Again I must stress I see this book for two types of people, those who want to learn to play Classical Guitar, and just as importantly for those whose only goal is to see a living history of the instrument.
